First Weekend in Roma!

After a pretty tough first week of classes, this weekend was much appreciated.

After the art history field trip, to San Pietro in Montorio and the Farneseli Villa (saw a Raphael...NBD), we embarked on our adventures.
Church: San Pietro in Montorio

Tempietto
So then we did some work, had dinner, and then got ready to go out.  After getting all dressed up, I met Drew, Christine, Sarah, Alex, and Brittany in the lobby of the Centro. We ended up wandering around Monte Testacchio for an hour and a half, in which we witnessed: car rape (a guy throwing his girlfriend against various cars, apparently to her delight?), a possible drug deal, PDA, and various assorted Roman debauchery.  We finally found the club district, and realized we had no idea where we were going.

So we ended up standing outside Coyote, unsure if we could get in.  We thought we'd been turned away, but apparently, the bouncer was calling us over.  So in we went.  We ordered drinks, and then sat around, thinking the night was a bust.  All they were playing was house music...lame.  At 12:05, however, things changed.  DANCE PARTY!

We ended up dancing the rest of the night, and even met Sebastiano, aka DJ Pauly D from the Jersey Shore.  Legit.  The guy had more hair gel in then I've ever worn in my life, a Dior shirt, diamond earrings...hahahaha :)  But it was definitely fun!!

Then Saturday, after cappuccino and croissant at the bar near the Centro, we did some more homework, then set out on a city adventure.  After realizing we left Bryan behind, and ending up finding a few other people when we went back for him, we ended up at the Trevi Fountain.
The boys are unamused at our touristy-ness.

Trevi Fountain
Throwing in a coin!  (Wishing for an Italian pop star :))
Fountain again :)
Emma, me, and Sarah
After being sorely disappointed at the lack of Italian pop stars (read: Paolo from Lizzie McGuire), we set off for Piazza Navona and to find some dinner.  After ending up at Castel Sant Angelo, we found a little cafe for dinner.  We all had a 10 euro special, which was wine, water, bruschetta, and pasta.  SO GOOD!  We then got some desserts and coffees, and everything was delicious!
Castel Sant Angelo
Vino!!
Lasagne!
Souffle and gelatto!
After finding our way home again, we headed back out and met some American students on the bus back into the city.  They were all really cool, and are living not too far from us.  We ended up back at the Castel Sant Angelo for the night!  Well, first we ended up at the Bulldog Bar for 1 euro shots..... ;)  And then we continued on to La Maison, a club that is literally right next door to the Castel.  We partied with Hadrian at his mausoleum, NBD.

After a night of dancing on the Tiber, and a minor reenactment of the Rape of the Sabine Women involving Christine and six Italian guys trying to carry her off, we headed back to the Centro.  Along the way we threatened to leave Drew on the banks of the Tiber, reenacting Romulus and Remus and the she-wolf...Classics majors, we're lame :P

After a lazy Sunday of Mass at San Pietro, lunch, and homework, I met up with Kaity in the city for dinner.  Really exciting!  It was great to see her, and hear about her first few days in Roma!

More to come later!

Ciao!

P.S.-Fall break and random trip updates: Sorento and Capri this weekend, Florence next weekend, Paris, Switzerland, Prague, Venice some other weekends....Fall break: London and Edinburgh at first, then to Toulouse for the remainder!  SO PUMPED!!

  1. Laureeenn I'd post this on your wall but I'm off facebook (also, I could just tell you, but you're super far away in the hallway right now):

Yeah I hope so. Definately just saw two freshmen in very authentic togas and cotton ball beards. This new class is stepping it up.
